What Causes A Swollen Lump At A Tooth Extraction Site?

hi i got an extraction on my upper tooth 5 days ago. I have no pain but there is tenderness and a lil swollen lump is that normal on top where my tooth was extracted is that normal? my dentist did not prescribe me any antibiotics when i got the extraction done

Hi..
Thanks for the query.

A swollen lump and some tenderness at the extraction site is not abnormal and will subside in a week..

It can be at times due to hematoma formation that can occur due to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues due to rupture of small blood vessels that is common during the extraction procedure..

You should however take a short course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..
This will help in clearing off any infection if present..
You should also do cool compresses over the lip and do warm saline gargles..
