Any sort of inflammation (or infection) or nothing at all can cause lymph node swelling. That being said there are several features that make a lymph node suspicious for malignancy. Having cancer. The size (under 1/2 inch is not much, larger is a concern), if the size is getting larger over months. If it is NOT painful and if it is NOT mobile but stuck down. If there are spreading numbers of them.
Of course I cannot say in your particular situaiton without directly looking/feeling the node/nodes
