What Causes A Teen Aged Male To Have Fever Of 100 And Above From Past 4 Days?

My son is running a temp of 101.8 since wed, we took him to the doctors and they percribed an antibiotic, cough surpressant and naproxin, he was still running a temp on Friday so we took him back to the doctors who gave him a different antibiotic and a shot of antiviotic. His lungs are clear, no strep and no kidney infection, its been 4 days with a fever of 101. Motrin helps for a few hours. When the fever returns he shakes violently. He is 15 yr old healthy male . What should I do now?

Hi, Thanks for choosing our forum. Your son possibly runs a viral infection. Iam suggesting this because the antibiotics doesnot seem to work positively. If your place has an endemicity for malaria, please check for blood malarial parasites. The treatment has to be totally different and emergent,if the diagnosis will be malarial fever. Other diseases like leptospirosis and typhoid should have responded to the antibiotic treatment. Regards,Dr.Pravin Asir.
