Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Tender, Discolored And Bulging Vein Behind The Knee?
I am a 50 yr old non-smoker who is about 30 pounds overweight. I just had a discolored/bulging vein appear on the back of my knee. No injury. Leg seems to be a bit swollen from there down; maybe its my imagination. Spot is about the size of an eraser. Very tender. Should I be worried?
The symptoms seem to be related to varicose vein. I suggest to use a compression stocking and maintain the leg elevated. I also suggest using a Heparin cream. If the symptoms continue you should see an angiologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
