What Causes A Transient Ischemic Attack?

Hello, 1)     I was clinically diagnosed with TIA stroke on Dec 16th. Right side tingling/heaviness; light-headed; slower mental processing; (potential) slight drop in right side of smile; hot feeling Inside head/face; acute high blood pressure. Note: MRI, CT, ECG, and EEG showed all ok. The doc does not know what caused it. 2)     Current “Not Normal for me” conditions a)     Physical symptoms i)     Blood pressure is strangely elevated – even with new BP medicine (143/87 in the morning and 150/96 in afternoon) (1)     Prior 5-year readings were normal: 112/68 ii)     Heaviness (lack of sensation) remains on right side (foot/leg is worse than hand/arm/face). (1)     Note: Left foot now has feeling of heaviness (lack of sensation) starting Monday (1/30/17) iii)     No vibration sensed in right big toe with tuning fork. (1)     If no vibration (from vibration fork) is sensed. iv)     Imbalance with heal-to-toe walk (very wobbly) v)     Ringing in ears (was occurring prior to event) vi)     Mental stamina lower/slower (hit tilt after 1-2 hours of heaving thinking/processing) vii)     Recently recognized I can have abnormal breathing: shallower breaths, heavy sighing, through mouth, from upper chest viii)     Right side of face is more rounded/swollen (water retention?) ix)     Neck rash (right side) b)     Blood test abnormality (not normal range) i)     More significant (1)     Overactive thyroid: TSH was 0.241 uIU/ML (target 0.358 - 3.740 uIU/ML). (decreased dose) What could cause an event like this? I had something somewhat similiar 4 years ago (and it was undiagnosed ). Abnormal breathing? Some sort of stress response? MS? Cervical stenosis symptoms with myelopathy? Parkensons? Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions. Mike

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have not mentioned your age, still Tia is transient ischemia attack happens due to sudden temporary cessation of blood supply to brain area, that leads to poor nutrition to brain tissue may lead to temporary or permanent loss of function of particular brain part, the symptoms what you mentioned that clearly shows some kind of brain insult, I suspect due to lack of blood supply due to temporary narrowing of blood vessels or clots. Now brain has many areas which is responsible for sensation and command activities, to some extent both have been affected. Presently you go for Physiotherapy treatment which will be the best choice of treatment for you, I can suggest. Second join Art of living workshop, which is best stress reliever tools by which your breathing also will get improved.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
