What Causes Abdominal And Stomach Pain With Rectal Bleeding?

After eating a couple slices of pizza last night, I began to feel some pain in my lower abdomen..almost like a gas bubble. Nothing changed until 4am the following morning- extreme pain in left/lower side of abdomen, felt the need to vomit or have a bowel movement. Did vomit once, and also had runny stool. Was able to go back to sleep after that. At 8am, got up, felt the same pressure/bloated feeling, same pain, and had more runny stool followed by bloody patches instead of stool. Afterwards, I still feel the need to have a bowel movement but do not need to. Pain is now a discomfort instead of a pain. I ate ate something to see if that would help and experienced the pain/pressure/bloated feeling while eating as if the problem was in my stomach.

In most cases, causes of abdominal pain and bleeding through rectum are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet and sitzbaths. It is very important to take lot of fluids, probiotics, high fibre food and stool softeners to avoid hard stool and straining. If there is no improvement in next few weeks, then surgical management should be considered. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss. Otherwise, you can see if conservative therapy will help and consult proctologist if necessary
