Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Bloating After A Colonoscopy?
I had a routine colonoscopy a week ago (no problems detected), but I have had difficulty with gas and bloating since the procedure. I do take a daily probiotic (with fiber) along with my regular vitamins, and my bowel movements have still not yet returned to normal (daily).
Abdominal bloating after colonoscopy is very common. This is because during colonoscopy CO2 is pumped into colon, which forms air pockets. Try walking and exercising to get rid of air pockets. You must also pass whenever you feel to do so. You can also take over-the-counter Simethicone (gas X) which help remove excess air and bloating.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
