elderly lady from our congregation has recurrent painful extension of stomach. very dark stools(neg test for blood) back pain, feels very bloated and stomach is very hard. trip to er is always clear ct of stomach. good blood tests, no explanation for bloating. any suggestions for her visit to primary care. she has mild dementia and often forgets to eat if that helps any.
It is possible with the history of bloating that she may be using peptobismol or a similar product to help with the symptoms.
Bloating is usually due to reflux or use of gas producing foods such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, turnips, beans, brussel sprouts. These are only some of the foods that are associated with bloating.
