What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Diarrhea After Thyroidectomy?

My daughter is 51 years old, post thyroidectomy (4 yrs)., she does take thyroid replacement. She has abdominal bloating, multiple stools per day with undigested food. She even wakes up at night with explosive diarrhea, again undigested food. She had a colonoscopy 2 years ago with benign polyps. Suggestions please.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Chronic diarrhea may have many causes. If symptoms are not settled and there are symptoms in the night, this always needs a detailed evaluation. This may be related to the thyroid or may have a different cause. This needs a detailed history, examination, and tests. So she should be seen by a gastroenterologist for proper assessment and management as to know the cause and manageaccordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
