What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Rumbling Along With Sharp Pain?

I have been bloated, gassy, rumbling in the abdomen and sometimes sharp pain, always dull pain. There is always a sharp pain right below the sternum, my abdomen is very distended, so if I apply a little pressure right below the sternum it s sore. My bowels have changed. Dark, some solid with water substance, sometimes not at all unless I take a laxative. I look 6 months pregnant and this has just happened in the last few days. I am 56 years and female. What could this be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern . As per your query you have abdominal bloating and rumbling along with sharp pain . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome , gas pains , gastroenteritis , giardiasis , constipation , lactose intolerance , ulcerative colitis or inflammatory bowel disease . I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order CT scan , ultrasound , stool test and endoscopy. Doctor may prescribe omeprazole , laxative , antibiotics like ornidazole and albendazole. Avoid intake of large meals at a time and take small and frequent meals. Drink warm water throughout the day . For now eat light , avoid non spicy and heavy food , drink plenty of water and eat fibrous diet . The symptoms can also occur due to UTI . Also apply warm compresses on abdomen .
