What Causes Abdominal Cramping Radiating Towards Shoulder?
Hi my son is complaining of abdominal cramping that started on the right and ran up to his shoulder and then it moved to his left side. Should we be concerned? He can t run and plays soccer. He just got over a virus that has he had since Monday night. Fever over 100, body aches.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in right side of abdomen radiating to shoulder could be due to involvement of gall bladder. Inflammation of gall bladder called cholecystitis and inflammation can lead to pain in right upper side of abdomen and radiation to shoulder. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and ultrasound of abdomen. Fever can accompany cholecystitis and thus possibility of cholecystitis i likely. In the meanwhile, you can take pain killer to control the pain. Definitive treatment of pain requires treatment of underlying cause of pain.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
