What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Bloody Diarrhea While On Balsalazide?
Have Ulcerative colitis. Tapering the prednisone now and doing well. Dr. started me on Balsalazise 75o mg Cp 3 tabs 2 times a day . Took 3 doses and developed severe abdominal cramps and explosions of bloody diarrhea just like when the colitis flared up 3 weeks ago. Stopped the Basalazise today and hada normal BM today and only slightly blood tinged. I don t think this Balsalazide if doing me any good . Shood i discontinue it?

One of the common side effect of Balsalazine is diarrhea.But blood tinged diarrhea can also indicate flare up of ulcerative colitis.
I recommend that you should immediately consult your health care provider.
Your doctor will evaluate and may even need to restart prednisone if it is an acute exacerbation of ulcerative colitis.
