What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea After Eating?

About an hour tor so after eating a meal, I get severe abdominal cramping and the sudden urge to go to the bathroom. A will have a very loose stool/s and after a bit I feel better. I have seen a gastroenterologist and have taken medication before I eat to slow down the release of food from being emptied into the small bowel. This has not changed the problem. The colonoscopy is normal. I am wondering whether or not the small bowel has a problem. I cannot swallow the camera as I have a pacemaker.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The narrated symptoms indicate possible inflammatory bowel syndrome or disease which can be possible with normal colonoscopy.

In my clinic, I recommend a biochemical evaluation to rule out enzyme deficiency or lactose intolerance issue, CT abdomen with biopsy of the colon to reveal the in-depth analysis of the condition and cure ahead.

Till that time, dietary precautions, pre and probiotics, gut-specific antibiotics and enzyme supplements help to a great extent.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
