Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant (from my LMP)... Had some mild cramps and went for an abdominal ultrasound.... Result shows no sac but thickened endometrium measuring 4.9cm*1.0cm. At 6 weeks had a light bleeding ranges from bright red to dark red, no cramps, no clot or tissue..... The bleeding stopped before 24hours. What could be wrong?
Bleeding in early pregnancy may be due to pregnancy itself, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, etc. To better determine what is happening you will need regular follow up with ultrasound and BHCG blood test.
If the BHCG is increasing with at least 60% in two days, then this is a normal pregnancy. Also, the ultrasound will determine the development or the sack and also the presence of the embryo in the womb. Bleeding may happen in up to 50% of pregnant women in the first trimester and around half of these pregnancies continue normally.
If you start to bleed again and have pain, please see your doctor to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
