What Causes Abdominal Cramps, Loose Stools And Dizziness?

I am a 62 year old woman, very healthy. For about two weeks I have been experiencing stomach cramping and loose stools. I experience this two to three times a day, otherwise feel fine. Lately a little dizziness. I have recently lost about 16 pounds; now weigh 106, 5 4 tall. Diet is high in fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and grains, very little meat. I exercise daily. Never had any digestive issues before.

Hello,

Abdominal cramps and loose stools over a long duration, dizziness as well as significant weight loss are things that need medical attention and to treat it.

It’s very important to know the reason behind these symptoms which include diet, infections or other causes like autoimmune disorders or carcinoma.

First of all, I would suggest you get an ultrasound abdomen done. Along with the results visit a gastroenterologist or your physician.

He will be able to guide you with better management options depending on the cause. He will do a physical examination and with the appropriate history, he will guide you further.

He might ask you to get some other diagnostic tests for a clear idea. He might prescribe you appropriate medicines to manage the pain and loose stools if required.

So without further delay visit your doctor and follow the advice on the management of the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
