What Causes Abdominal Cramps, anxiety And Numbness In Hand During Periods?

My girlfriend is having very bad abdominal pains. She is currently on her period and says the cramps feel similar to period-related cramps. But she s panicking because her hands are also numb. She has a lot of anxiety when she doesn t feel well so I can t tell if it s physical or anxiety. Does this sound serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welocome to HCM. Periods happens when the hormone level depresses. Then the uterus become sensitive and starts contracting . Because of this contraction, there is abdomen cramps. The pain definetely stimulates the autonomic system which is present in our body. Release of the substances by this system causes numbness in hand. There may be decrease in her BP also . There are all normal things which happen in few individuals depending on the sensitivity. Ask her to take rest when it is severe pain and relax. Ask her to engage in things doing which she like so that she wont know the time pass. Take care
