What Causes Abdominal Distention After A Laparotomy?
Hi, I had a laparotomy 3 weeks ago due to adhesions and my stomach from under my breasts initially was quite hard and extended that settled but in past two days it seems to have extended again I wonder if it is trapped wind as I have not been very active as I have a hematoma at the incision sight which is still draining so have been resting. Thank you for any advise as I am not due to see my consultant until next Thursday. Tina
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum. I can understand your concern. I have gone through the detailed history you have given. In my opinion, you are mostly having gaseous distention. So take laxatives, drink plenty of water, eat more fibers etc. If not improving after all these then get done CT Abdomen. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
