My wife has been suffering from the following symptoms after having eaten a fattening or high sugar based food. These symptoms also appear after having an emotional or stressful experience.. Symptoms start from 1 to 6 hours afterwards.. * abdominal or intestinal gas with belching. * pain or discomfort in the upper belly near the breastbone * cramping sensation in the upper abdomen almost like a gallbladder attack She has had stidues done and NO gall stones have been found and NO abnormalities have been seen with Ultrasound studies and special xrays with her drinking special liquid compounds first. She usually takes biscopan for stomach pain and Gaviscon for controlling bloating.. but sometimes neither works..

Hi,

Gastritis is the condition involving the stomach where the lining of the stomach gets inflamed following chronic exposure to spicy and oily food. Irregular food intake also causes acidity which on chronic exposure leads to gastritis. Gastroesophageal reflux disease is the condition in which there is acid reflux from stomach into the esophagus which damages the lining of the esophagus causing esophagitis. Buscopan is the antispasmodic which helps to relieve spasmodic pain. But, this does not helps in gastritis and esophagitis.

Endoscopy helps to identify the level of damage to stomach and esophagus. Proton pump inhibitors or Histamine receptor blockers helps to relieve the acidity, antacids helps to neutralize the excess acid. Sucralfate helps to coat the damaged mucous layer in the stomach. Visit the Gastroenterologist for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
