What Causes Abdominal Pain Accompanied By Cramps And Diarrhea In A Child?
An 8-year-old boy was brought into his doctor’s office for evaluation. The boy had been having abdominal pain accompanied by cramps and diarrhea for the past 2 weeks. Earlier on the day of his appointment, the boy thought that he had had an ‘accident’ in his pants. When he looked in his underwear, he saw something moving. He called his mother who placed the moving specimen into a container and brought it with her. She thought it was an earthworm. The boy was examined and had no fever, cough or other symptoms. No worms or larvae were observed on anal examination. When asked about their travel history, it was unremarkable.
this seems to be taken directly from a paeds text book is it not
anyways,
such history is typical of worm infestation. specifically ascariasis. the negative travel history is confusing but the symptoms and the "earthworm" like specimen nails the diagnosis.
its a common occurring in young children andbits nothing much to be worried about.
I would prescribe tab albenazole single dose at bed time.
may repeat after 1 week.
hope this was helpful
