What Causes Abdominal Pain After Having Food?
My husband has been having this problem for several months and I don t think he s ever mentioned it to his doctor. Every time he eats a meal he starts having severe abdominal pain. Sometimes the only thing that will give him any relief is to vomit us the food. (I ve been noticing that this is happening daily especially after dinner (Breakfast and dinner are the only two meals that are eaten at home.) And 9 of out of 10 times, the vomit contained blood per my husband. One thing that you should know about my husband is that he was previously addicted to Vicodin but has since weaned out of it 2 years ago. The withdrawals that he experienced was extremely frightening for me because I did not realize that he had an addiction until I realized that he was picking up his pain meds early so our drug coverage would not cover it. He did have a legitimate reason for the meds though. He has a crushed lumbar #3 I think from employment as a UPS driver over 20 years ago. My husband has also had blood in his stool although he refuses to me how often (all the time???). Well that s all that I can think of right now.

In my view, your husband needs a couple of diagnostic test like a liver function test, endoscopy and stool examination.
It takes courage and persistence to fight addiction of prescription drugs, which your husband achieved and must be applauded.
However, the abuse of pain medication like Vicodin can cause extensive damage to liver and mucosa of gut.
Persistent pain in abdomen after meal is suggestive of ulcer. which can due to acidity, H.pylori infection or malignancy.
Moreover, other causes that can present with bloody stool and vomit are inflammatory conditions of GIT and malignancy.
In my opinion, it is crucial for your husband to seek medical help and undergo diagnostic test at the earliest.
