Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am a 62 year old female. I have had abdominal pain in the upper and lower GI tract for about 3 weeks. At first just occasionally but it has become quite often. Mostly after I eat something. I thought it may be constipation and took a laxative but the cramping remains. There is some relief after a bowel movement but only for a short while. Could this be food poisoning?
We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, it can be inflammatory changes in intestines but needs evaluation by stool analysis and blood counts. Also, an erect abdomen film for any signs of gut loops dilatation may be ruled out.
Meanwhile, antispasmodic like Drotaverine can be used if constipation isn't present significantly. OTC analgesic like acetaminophen can also help. If constipation is present stool softeners like lactulose can also be used Alongside.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
