General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From the query, I found that your mother is suffering from drug induced gastritis. Obesity also favours onset of gastritis. Gastritis is the condition in which the lining of the stomach get damaged and inflamed. The epithelium of the stomach is protected from the gastric acid by mucus layer.

Since your mother is medication for diabetes and hypertension, the drugs may interfere with the normal protective mechanism of the stomach which results in exposure of the epithelial layer to the toxic substances including the gastric acid. Prolonged exposure to toxic epithelium damages the normal anatomy leads to inflammation and ulcer formation.

Proton pump inhibitors, H2 rector blocker, antacids are prescribed to protect the normal lining of the stomach. Drugs with less side effects are advised to prevent further damage. Balanced and non toxic diet helps to overcome the injury to the lining. OGD scopy helps to identify the pathology in the stomach. Consult a gastroenterologist for further opinion.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
