Hi,
Noted your history of being 33 weeks pregnant, pain in upper abdomen,
nausea and
constipation, only small bits of motion that are dark and foul smelling.
As the
pregnancy advances there may be difficulty in passing stools and retained one can cause fecolith formation, difficult to evacuate and
so on.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Send the sample of stool for lab tests to see if there is any infection.
Consult your Gynecologist for examination and decide about which
stool softener you should take, whether some sort of
enema is indicated and to be given or not.
Now that the pregnancy is advanced it is better to take any thing that does not cause hard stools/constipation.
Increase fiber input in diet.
Do not strain at stool.
If there is any evidence of intestinal infection, your Gynecologist will surely give you pregnancy-safe antibiotic.
Take plenty of oral fluids with fibers.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
