Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Pain And Bloating When Diagnosed With SIBO?
I was diagnosed with bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) in 2009 following a hydrogen breath test. This was also several months after I had my gall bladder removed. My doctor prescribed antibiotics which I took for a few months but weren t all that helpful. I then started taking over the counter probiotics which I ve now taken for the last 3-4 years. However, I still struggle with bloating and abdominal pain especially during sleeping hours. At 56, I still keep myself in good shape by working out 4-5 times a week and eating healthy but I find that I fight through the discomfort. I d appreciate your professional opinion as to treatment options.
Hello I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Despite of previous treatment measures and healthy lifestyle symptoms of bloating could be due to food. Sometimes, food rich in simple carbohydrates and pulses can cause bloating. Consult a nutrition expert for a diet plan and do discuss your medical history. Apart from food other possible causes of bloating includes pain relief medication, low fiber diet, regular intake of medications for chronic conditions. hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
