Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Pain And Foot Swelling Post A Splenic Embolization?
I just had a splenic embolization and have had continued sharp abdominal pain and, oddly, swelling and intense pain in the top of my foot. The hospital released me knowing about these symptoms which occurred the morning after the procedure. What could be causing the abdominal pain and foot pain? Could it be the residual blood from the spleen that is causing razor blade sharp pain in the abdomen, or some kind of sudden symptoms similar to but not really gout in the foot?
The sharp abdomen pain with swelling in foot is indicative of occlusion of blood supply to lower limb via tributary blockage through sequence of embolization procedure. This does not sound to be gout most likely, and hence an ER visit for immediate Doppler with or without lower limb angiography is recommended to evaluate the underlying cause and manage in emergency without any compromise with the further blood supply to the lower limb and related segments of abdomen as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
