My husband was given Cefazolin to treat bacterial infection that they do not know the source of. He finished prescribed dosage 2 weeks ago, they did blood culture after that and came back negative. A week later we brought him to ER for severe abdominal pain with 102 fever. Blood culture came out positive now they are prescribing vancomycin. What is the difference between the two and why within 3-4 days of negative, suddenly came out positive. He has been suffering abdominal pain for a month now.

Hello,
Your husband is suffering from primary bacterial peritonitis. He gives cefazolin but the problem recurred. Now he gave vancomycin which is given in MRSA infections. Ask him to avoid alcohol and keep sugar level under control.
