What Causes Abdominal Pain And Nausea After Taking A Morning After Pill?

Hi, I had sex with my bf on Saturday evening and I took the morning after pill less than 24 hours later but I ve been feeling nauseous, tired and I having abdominal pains since then, is that normal? Also I am a sickle cell patient so could that be the cause?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Morning after pill can have gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, pain in abdomen and so on as this is a hormonal preparation. Sickle cell disease can cause such a problem but could have been there in past too. And the best way is to consult your Doctor for a clinical evaluation, examination and investigations so that a proper diagnosis and management if needed can be done. You may please take a PPI like Omeprazole, Domperidone and Antacid for symptomatic relief.
