What Causes Abdominal Pain And Shortness Of Breath After An Angiogram?
My father had an angiogram on Monday. he has had 2 heart attacks & had stents put in then.He didn't need any stents this time but was told his heart is weak, and he may have CHF. For the last 2 days he has had abdominal, pain, and shortness of breath. What could be causing this??
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. Since he is having abdominal pain with shortness of breath after angiogram, possibility of contrast (used in angiography) induced renal damage is more. Contrast materials are nephrotoxic in nature. And renal toxicity typically seen after 1-2 days of contrast injection. So abdominal pain can be due to kidney injury. Once kidneys are damaged, urine outflow is decreased and so fluid retention in the body increases. This fluid retention can cause pulmonary edrma and thus shortness of breath. This thing will be more severe if heart function is compromised (as in your father's case). So better to consult doctor and discuss all these and rule out contrast induced nephrotoxicity.
