What Causes Abdominal Pain And Trouble With Bowel Movements After Eating Food?

i HAVE STOMACH PROBLEMS. i HAVE HAD a HIDA scope which came back normal and a CT scan which came back normal but my upper abdomen is painful mostly when I eat. I have trouble with bowel movements. Typically I go once a week and have been like that most of my life. The CT scan showed a lot of fecal matter in it. Could my stomach problems be related to that. I do not feel constipated. When I get the stomach issues it feels like a band around my upper ribcage that is very uncomfortable and I have gotten a positive UTI in my unrine samples. The first time the culture came back with streph. I have no symptoms of a UTI. My Dr. now wants to do an endoscopy. Could this be Crone s Disease or something involving my intestines.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Your problem looks to be related to constipation and passing stools once a week only. This causes fecal loading, hard stools called as fecolith causing impaction and thus your symptoms. The basic of treatment is to first of all, consult a general surgeon or a gastroenterologist. Insist for saline-soap enema till the bowel is clear ed well of all fecal matter. Start taking various stool softeners like Isabgol husk in 2 glasses of water, dose to be adjusted to give you proper bowel movements.

Food adjustments with high fiber diet, stopping the foods and beverages that cause hard stool. Continue this till you pass bowel movement daily and should solve most of the problems. Then get a colonoscopy and biopsy to determine the cause like any nerve deficiency or so. Get UTI treated if there is infection on culture and sensitivity as some of UTI are asymptomatic and do cause problems in long run like formation of stool, pyelonephritis and so on.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
