What Causes Abdominal Pain, Blood And Mucus In Stool?

One month ago I had 1 week strait of abdominal pain, the next week I began to notice streaks of blood within my stool. There was no blood in the toilet. These streaks of blood in my stool continued for about 1 full week with mucous sometimes being noticed as well. The blood was happening every 3/4 poo s. Eventually the stools started to become very soft with blood being noticed everytime I used the bathroom which was 2-4 times per day but as they got softer and thinner the blood became mixed in more with the stool, rather then a streak of blood I have been noticeing a redish brown colour in some stools this last case has been for about the last week. I had a test for infections and parasites which came back negative. I am 28 years old and very healthy. I run half marathons and stay very active. I have been very gasy during this whole period

Hi,

The symptoms you are describing, such as abdominal pain, blood and mucus in stool, and changes in stool consistency, may be indicative of several possible conditions. These include inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), infectious colitis (caused by bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections), diverticulitis, or colorectal cancer.

It is important to seek medical attention and evaluation from a healthcare professional to determine the underlying cause of these symptoms. Your healthcare provider may recommend further testing, such as a colonoscopy, to help with diagnosis.

In the meantime, it may be helpful to make changes to your diet to alleviate some symptoms. You may want to try avoiding spicy or fatty foods, increasing fiber intake, and staying well hydrated. Additionally, you may want to avoid any activities that could worsen your symptoms, such as high-impact exercise, until you have a better understanding of what is causing your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Abdominal pain, blood, and mucus in the stool can be symptoms of various health conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer, or infections. It is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms and receive appropriate treatment.

Your healthcare provider may recommend additional diagnostic tests, such as imaging studies or a colonoscopy, to evaluate the health of your digestive system and identify any potential issues. Treatment options may include medications to manage inflammation or infection, changes to your diet or lifestyle, or surgery in more severe cases.

In the meantime, you can try to manage your symptoms by staying well-hydrated, eating a healthy and balanced diet, and avoiding foods that may irritate your digestive system, such as spicy or fatty foods. It may also be helpful to keep a food diary to track your symptoms and identify any triggers.

If you are experiencing severe or worsening symptoms, such as persistent bleeding or abdominal pain, it is important to seek medical attention right away. Your healthcare provider can provide personalized recommendations for managing your symptoms and preventing potential complications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
