Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just spoke with my sister and I m a bit worried. She is 60 years old and generally quite healthy. She said she woke last night at 3:00 AM with stomach / intestinal pain. She had diarrhea for the next several hours until there was nothing left. She said she took some immodium and ibuprophen. Although not much left in her, what does come out is slightly bloody. She has been able to drink some warm water through the day, and can urinate. She also said she feels like if she could throw up, that she would feel better, but she has not vomited.
Hello I appreciate your concern for your sister Looking at your description this can be caused by food poisoning or acute gastroenteritis, Bloody diarrhoea is always a matter of concern I would advise her to immediately consult doctor for stool test for occult blood, ova cyst or protozoa
She should take lots of fluids like fruits juices and ORS solution to counter electrolytic imbalances and dehydration She should take free fruits and steamed vegetables until she recovers fully Please Ask her to maintain good hygiene like washing of hands with antiseptic soap or solution after using wash room and before she eats something
I would advise her to take anti emetic like domperidone with antacids and patoprazole or omeprazole
She may require a course of antibiotics under supervision of her doctor if she doesn't improve. Thanks and regards
