Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
On Monday afternoon I went to a clinic with abdominal pain, fever, and fainting. I ve been taking medications for pain for back problems, and the doctor at the clinic believes I have peptic ulcers. I will not be able to see my specialist until Friday afternoon. He recommends that in the mean time I go to an ER. Why would he recommend this? Do I need to go to an ER now, or can I hold out until my appt on Friday? (The clinic on Monday gave me omeprazole)

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Based on your symptoms of abdominal pain, fever, and fainting, you may have a serious underlying condition that requires urgent medical attention. Peptic ulcers can be a serious condition, especially if they are bleeding or perforated, and can cause symptoms like abdominal pain and fever. Fainting can be a sign of low blood pressure, which can be caused by blood loss or dehydration.
If your doctor is recommending that you go to the ER, it is likely because they are concerned that your symptoms may be indicative of a more serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Waiting until your appointment on Friday may put your health at risk.
It is important to follow your doctor's advice and go to the ER as soon as possible. The ER will be able to perform tests and provide treatments that may be necessary to address your symptoms and prevent further complications.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
