Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Pain On The Left Side While Suffering From Diarrhea?
I started get sick yesterday with diarrhea. It s been mostly watery with some solid fecal matter. My concern is that my left side of my stomach is so sore, it is uncomfortable to walk. I have probably gone to the bathroom at least 10 times today. I am 66 and am in good health. I am not on any meds, and am active. I was going to drink a sena tea tonight, but I don t know if that s a smart thing to do.
If you were constipated before the diarrhea started then you may be dealing with overflow diarrhea. This is when loose stool or fluid, that was trapped behind an impaction of stool, gets free and results in this scenario.
If you have a fever, then you may have a bacterial infection and you would have to consult with your doctor so that you receive antibiotics and the correct treatment for the diarrhea. If you notice blood, then it may still be an infection but also possibly inflammatory bowel syndrome.
The cramping/pain is from the colon contracting and this can occur in any of the mentioned scenarios. I would suggest not taking the Senna tea for now. You can use something like Tasectan or Smecta to help with the diarrhea until you see your doctor.
