What Causes Abnormal Bowel Movements?

I thought I had hemrrhoids, and a few months ago and used preparation H suppositories to try and get rid of them. I have done this 1/2 dozen times the past 20 yrs without any problems. This time It is totally different. I thought everything was working however I found that sometimes everything is very runny, and sometimes like rabbit pellets for long stringy poop. It varies and sometimes it seems normal. I m 68 and have colonoscopies every 4 to 5 years. Normally I have one or two polyps that are benine. Should I see a gastrologist.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms suggest bowel infection, amoebic to be very specific, which needs confirmation by physical examination and stool test if necessary.

Consult your family physician for the infection and a proctologist (anorectal surgeon) for the anal polyps.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
