What Causes Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding?

I was scheduled for my period on May 12th. On the 8th and 9th of May I had a light flow that stopes for two days after then I had my period as scheduled. I then again started having a light flow 9 days later which lasted for 2 days then ended. 11 days later I had another normal period. It s been 5 days and now I m having it again. This is not at all normal for me. Is this something I should be worried about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Menstrual periods that are shorter and abnormally frequent known as polymenorrhea. They occur at intervals of less than 21 days. Polymenorrhea may occur naturally, or it may be resulted from some underlying causes. Most common causes are sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, gonorrhea etc and stress which are responsible for polymenorrhea. Other reasons such as uterine fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, hormonal dysfunctions like oestrogen and progesterone, use of birth control pills or intrauterine device, endometriosis, endometrial or uterine cancer etc.

Treatment depends on causes. You should undergo some investigations like CBC with like ultrasound scan, urine R/M/E & C/S, vaginal swab for C/S, endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy, CT scan etc to find out the underlying causes which are responsible for your present sufferings and then treat them accordingly.

Take care. Hope you have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
