Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abnormal Menstruation Post Discontinuing Birth Control Pills?
I have very abnormal periods. I just got off my period May 4th after being on it for two weeks. I was on birth control (Amethia)for a month & a half before I stopped taking it because of the side effects. I have been having unprotected sex for the last 2 weeks since I ended my period. May 13th I started having brown spotting & What seems to be mucus mixed with it. On May 14th the bleeding became heavier with clots, The clots have stopped but i am still bleeding heavy and it s been 3 days. Is it possible that the bleeding can be implatation bleeding? Or could the bleeding be a result from stopping the birth control pills?
The bleeding is probably due to onset of menstruation. Implantation bleeding is not very heavy and it lasts for few days only. In case the bleeding is very heavy and does not stop, I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment and prescription of medication to stop the heavy bleeding.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
