Hi, my question is I ve had abnormal pap smears for 4 yes now all hpv my most recent pap came back with squamous cells and I am being referred to an obgyn from my pcm. My question is does this mean they are cancerous or might be so they need further testing will they perform a colposcopy?
Hello and welcome to HCM, It will be more informative if you could post the Pap reports for past four years. However, an abnormal Pap test is followed by colposcopy, cervical biopsy for histopathological examination of suspicious lesion as seen by colposcopic examination. In case any cancerous lesion is picked up on histopathology, surgical excision of uterus is done to remove the cancerous lesion.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
