What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding While On Contraceptive Pill?
Hi I am 54 and still on the pill....I had my period beginning on the 20th and it lasted for five days normal right....but two days later my period came back...I started the pill again but I m still bleeding...and my abdomen hurts a little...what can I do.....concerned.
Bleeding is likely with oral contraception as it is one of the adverse effects. On the other hand, it is best to have a check with your doctor to rule out other causes of the bleeding.
The doctor will do a vaginal exam, pap-smear, and transvaginal ultrasound. If all these come out normal then the bleeding is due to oral contraception.
I hope I have answered your query and have been helpful to you.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
