What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Discharge After Unprotected Sex?
Hi. I had one unprotected sexual encounter with a male appx march 25 of this year. I just feel like i have abnormal vaginal discharge possibly a yeast infection im not sure really as this has never happened to me before. I'm very scared! I was reading online and it says that hiv related yeast infections do not appear until years after being infected...is this true?
Greetings there, I am Dr Asanghanwa Carlson. Thanks for your questions. Any female should have some amount of discharge from the vagina which generally varies in amount, colour and consistency depending on what part of her menstrual cycle she happens to be in. An abnormal discharge is one which is higher in quantity than usual, has a different colour than usual and had a foul smelling odour and is associated with other symptoms such as itching. Abnormal vaginal discharge is usually a sign of infection which in most cases are sexually transmitted. In your case, the fact that you had unprotected sexual intercourse might be in favour of a sexually transmissible infection. However the vaginal discharge seen in yeast infection is usually whitish in colour, has no odour, very abundant and accompanied by vaginal and vulval itches. I would however advice you to consult your family physician for proper examination and analysis of your discharge so as to identify the specific causative agent of your discharge as vaginal discharge can have many causes. I would however advice you to go in for protected sex else you do testing alongside your partner. Goodluck
