Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is 58. Recently he appears to be hunched over when walking and standing. He frequently trips over his own feet. although he has a great memory, he seems to always ask questions in a way in which he can remember things. My family members have noticed him hunching over to walk also. when driving I m not sure if he is controlling his feet correctly. for instance, he recently stopped the car while on an incline. he said his foot fell off the gas. but the car was totally stopped. if his foot fell off the gas the momentum of the car would have still moved it up the hill a bit. he denies everything. his mom passed away from dementia. he refuses to get a physical or get checked out. I also believe he is losing weight. he is 6 1 and weighs about 150 now. was 165. Any thoughts would be great.
It is important for your husband to have a good check with the doctor, including a neurological exam. Neurological conditions should be ruled out and also an MMSE (mini-mental state examination) is needed to evaluate his cognitive function and make sure he is not developing dementia.
The doctor may ask for some blood tests as well such as TSH, FT4 and basic metabolic profile to check his health and rule out certain conditions such as thyroid problems, diabetes, etc.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
