Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abscess In Nose After Taking Antibiotics For Upper Gum Infection?
Have an upper gum infection (dental posts in place) for which I am taking antibiotics. Yesterday, I found an abscess in my nose just above where the gum infection is. My upper lip is swollen and painful as are my sinuses. Why would this abscess pop up after starting antibiotics?
The abscess is related to the gum infection. It is not related to the start of antibiotics. On the contrary, the antibiotics help to treat the abscess. I recommend to continue the antibiotics. I also recommend to use anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to see an ENT specialist to drain the abscess.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
