Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. In 2010, I found out I had chlamydia. I believe I had it for a year before receiving treatment. Today, I have an abscess in the vaginal area for about two years. I plan on getting it drained as soon as possible. I was tested a few months ago and am negative for STDs. I was wondering if I could still have a baby. I am not trying to, but would like to know. How can I know for sure that I can have one?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Currently it is important to get the vaginal abscess drained. At the same time, the abscess needs to be examined to look for the cause of pus formation (micro-organism causing infection) and drug sensitivity to select most appropriate antibiotic effective against the infection. A test specifically for chlamydia needs to be done to rule out the infection. You can bear babies provided chlamydial infection has not caused any structural abnormality in the genital tract like disorders of fallopian tubes. Chlamydial infection is known to cause structural abnormalities of the fallopian tubes but not in all the causes. A clinical and hysterosalpingographic examination by a gynecologist will help to know the status of genital organs.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
