What Causes Absence Of Fetal Heart Beat?

I am 7w and 6d pregnant and I went for my ultrasound today and they said there is no heart beat. The baby was measuring exactly where the baby should be. Is it possible to just have missed a heartbeat being as growth size was showing normal. I only had a brown discharge the size of a quarter and slight cramping for a day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This means the genetic material in the chromosomes wasn't right for a baby to develop. In a missed miscarriage, either the embryo doesn't develop, or it doesn't get very far and the heartbeat stops.
In later pregnancy, missed miscarriages may be due to an infection such as parvovirus or rubella.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh, General & Family Physician
