What Causes Absence Of Gestational Sac?

Hi good morning. I would like to ask regarding the result of my transv ultrasound last night. I was 2 weeks delayed so last week i decided to take a home pt the first line was clear but the second line was not that clear so i repeat the test after 3 hrs but same result however i noticed that the first home pt the second line was already clear when i checked it again so went to an ob for confirmation and the doctor said that the results of my home pt is clearly positive so he calculated the gestational age and that day im already at 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant based on my lmp which is june 5 but the last contact i had with my partner was june 24. Then yesterday I experienced a dark brown spotting as if im starting to have a menstruation but no cramps so my new ob decided to give a request for trasnv and according to the sonologist there is no gestational sac and no embryo but my endometrium is thick. The sonilogist said that probably my home pt was a false positive. So my question is am i really on 6weeks of pregnancy now or less than 6 weeks thats why its too early to detect for a gestational sac. Thank you for any answer

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Gestational sac will be visible in transvaginal ultrasound by 5 weeks of pregnancy. Since the gestational sac was not visible it is likely that you are less than 5 weeks.Measurement of blood HCG levels can confirm this.Blood HCG levels should rise above 1500 for the gestational sac to be visible. I would recommend checking blood HCG levels repeating the transvaginal ultrasound after a week to see if gestational sac is visible.
If blood HCG level is above 1500 and sac is not visible, then the possibility of ectopic pregnancy should be considered.

Hope this answers your question
