What Causes Accelerated Bone Loss After Weaning Off Fosamax?

My Doctor has prescribed Prolia for me. I have been taking fosamax with no ill effects for about 20 years. he had me stop using fosamax for a year because of the danger of fractured femur. I also have elevated cholesterol for which I take medicine. Therer seems to be lots of bad side effects. What do you think? My bone loss accelerated during the year I was off the fosamax.

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.com. Sorry about the confusion you may have. The Fosamax while keeps bones at good mass, it also causes them to be brittle and one is prone to fractures. So the way we do it is have a holiday of 1 year from the medication and he rightfully placed you on Prolia which is a biologic agent that aggressively treated mineral bone loss. You accelerated bone loss was in fact due to withdrawal from Fosamax. I hope this helps, good luck.
