What Causes Accumulation Of Fluid In Knees Along With Stiffness Post Spinal Surgery?
I have had two back surgery s one for a bulging disk which was thought to cut off nerve functiion to my legs and then a fusion on my L4 and L5 disks as all indications were then my disks were compressing the nerves to my legs. Now I have fluid retention in both legs, fluid on both knees, stiffness from my waist down, legs swollen to the point of inmobility and toe nails popping off my big toes. I have trouble standig, my knees give out and I fall, I have trouble getting in and out of vehicles and standing from a sitting position. I am 55 years old.
The accumulation of fluid both legs may be indicative of - Deep vein thrombosis from prolong bed ridden condition - Issues with venous return via cardiac conditions - Side effects of certain medicines
The stiff legs, difficulty in movements indicate sequences of disc fusion procedure with nerve compression of some sort. A repeat MRI with the comparison with previous one that of before surgery is best recommended from this platform at this point of time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
