What Causes Accumulation Of Phlegm In Throat And Nose Post Tonsillectomy?
My son had a tonsilectomy in November 2013 at 17 years old and since then he developes very thick phelm mainly in his throat and sometimes in his nose. He is constantly trying to hockle it out but it is so thick it won't come out until he makes himself physically sick (by sticking his finger down his throat. Its now come to a point where it is affecting his sleep and his work.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain phlegm formation at the back of the throat commonly occurs due to irritation and in case if it is still prevailing after 2 years then it can be due to other causes like upper respiratory tract infection, throat infection, sinusitis etc.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and after a thorough clinical evaluation he can advise you the treatment depending upon the cause.. As of now he can take mucolytics like Ambroxol, do steam inhalations and warm saline gargles.. Avoid spicy foods and maintain hydration.. Sip plenty of warm water.. In case if there is difficulty in coughing out you can get it removed by using a suction machine..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
