What Causes Acne On The Face During Menstruation?

Hello, I used to only get acne when I had my period but about a couple of moths after having a partial hysterectomy my face is broke out every day! Plus, the acne is all over my face and before the surgery I would only get couple of pimples during my period. What is causing this sudden acne breakout? Is it the surgery or because I am almost 30 years old? What are treatment options available? Should I see a dermatologist?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

In my opinion, the most likely cause could be a hormonal imbalance, caused either due to the hysterectomy directly resulting in an upset in hormone levels or due to any hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that you were prescribed after the hysterectomy. Correction of hormone levels will greatly help.

In addition to this, a dermatologist visit would also help and probably the initiation of topical applicants like clindamycin would help improve the acne breakouts.

Best wishes.
