What Causes Acute Back Pain With History Of Having Mild Osteoarthritis?

I am an octogenarian previously-active female, with several health issues including mild osteoarthritis in my hands (thumb joints) . I have recently developed acute lower back pain which feels more like neuralgia in my left buttock - not down the sciatic nerve.I am now getting other neuralgic pain in my arms , hands and face which is getting worse and more widespread by the week. My doctor suggests an X-ray of my spine, but I feel damaged nerves are more the cause of my pain. What tests and treatment could I expect for this condition?
