What Causes Acute Tenderness Behind The Right Knee?

I have acute tenderness behind my right knee. The slightest touch feels very painful. I thought it was going away a few days ago, but it is back as strong as ever. I am 64 years old and pretty active. I ll be going to swing dance class in about an hour. I ve been able to exercise, but I can t touch the area - extremely sensitive.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Marked tenderness and possible erythema of acute onset suggests an infection. Possibly it could have started as a folliculitis and got aggravated. Another possibility is a muscle or tendon strain due to the physical activity. In the latter case, it will resolve in about a week, with rest to the right limb. In case of infection, you will have to tale antibiotics. Please do consult a surgeon, who can diagnose the problem and give you necessary treatment.
